WHY RAISE MONEY FOR DOWN SYNDROME? | ||||||
What will Mile High Down Syndrome Association do with the money we help raise? |
|||||||
For over 25 years, the Mile High Down Syndrome Association has been serving the needs of individuals with Down syndrome and their families with programs operating throughout the Rocky Mountain region. We believe that through education, advocacy and support, we can improve the lives of people with Down syndrome. We have made powerful strides towards fulfilling our mission thanks to the involvement and support of thousands of people just like you! Looking ahead to our next 25 years, we need your help more than ever. We have come a long way, but there is still a long way to full acceptance and participation of individuals with Down syndrome. Your involvement in Down for Change™ will make a BIG difference in fundraising for our programs, but most importantly with the awareness changes we’d like to see! And remember, your clubs keeps 20% to do whatever you’d like! $57.50: Purchases the materials necessary for one new parent information packet to help new and expectant parents learn about Down syndrome and how to best care for their newborn baby. $330.75: Provides training and support for a parent volunteer who guides and assists a new family for one year or longer. $612.50: Equips thirty health care providers or medical students with information regarding the best way to care for and treat an individual with Down syndrome. $1,580.90: Makes it possible to create and distribute our monthly newsletter, filled with vital and up-to-date information regarding Down syndrome, to over 1500 families throughout the Rocky Mountain region, the nation and the world. |

| Will MHDSA be responsible with the money we raise?? | |||||||
Great question, and the answer is YES! MHDSA is TRIED AND TRUE!! MHDSA has been awarded the “Best In America” Seal of Approval as one of the top charities in the country, and one that meets the high standards of Independent Charities of American (ICA) and Local Independent Charities of America (LICA). The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America, and have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards are those required by the U.S. Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign. Of the 1 million charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000 (or 5 percent) meet or exceed these standards; and, of those, fewer than 2,000 are awarded this Seal. Pretty cool, right? |
